Help for Son

    Looking to bringing my son to a gaming conference in Europe...

    He is into game development and more the cottage side of industry..not a big fan of the big development companies..

    What conference would people recommend..late teens

    Nice city be a nice bonus and assuming maybe not ..done in English?

    Might be better off in UK?

    Any help welcome...

    Looking at that site I've seen Gamescom in Cologne next year and Games Forum in Barcelona.

    I don't know anything about these conferences though so you should contact Imirt and ask them what would help your son.

    Gamescom is huge, Colegne is a nice city too. But it's a big conference so you queue for ages to play a demo. Not great for the game dev side of things but still fun to see. Imirt might be better for the game dev side and might make some connections. Or do both :)

    Honestly if you want to get into games dev go to the smaller ones in Ireland. The bigger ones in Europe are more press events and are fine if you want to play a few games. The talks usually end up online.

    If you go to an Irish one it's way less formal. You will be able to talk to the devs, get tips from them, get a feel for the industry. You'll learn an awful lot more there as the stuff they show will be very raw

    Also if your son is already able to make some demos or games himself then one of the best learning tools is to take part in a game jam which I'm sure imirt will have links to. Basically they are fun get togethers where you have to make a game from scratch is about 8 hours or another arbitrary time. They are great fun and great for networking as many Irish devs will be there and will show of what they are working on.
