Help please to locate my shares

I purchased shares through AIB/Goodbody in 2001. I was issued with a contract note from Goodbody at the time but never received any share cert or any other correspondence. The shares were in an American communications company which has since been taken over by another American company. The shares lost value during the recession and I put them out of my mind until now. I called into AIB recently but they said that AIB don’t trade any longer and to contact Goodbody. I contacted Goodbody and they told me that they just facilitated the purchase through AIB, were not managing my shares and I need to contact the company who purchased the original communications company. I contacted the American company via email and they replied that they have no record of my shares. I do not have any other shares and I am not familiar with the system but I always assumed that I could just go to AIB at any stage and cash in the shares. Would any of you knowledgeable folk have any useful advice for me please?

You need to contact whomever the Transfer Agent is listed for the current iteration of the company. They will hold the current shareholder register and will be able to reconstitute your ownership & share cert

Thank you for your reply. Unfortunately, I don’t understand exactly what you mean. The “new” company is called Lumen Technologies. Do you mean that I need to contact Lumen and ask them who their Transfer Agent is/was?

Lumen's transfer agent is Computer share, the rest of the info is available from Lumen's investor relations page.

    Thanks banie01.

It was in fact Compershare who replied to me after I contacted Lumen. Here is the email I received which I don’t understand. There must be some way of locating the shares but I’m at a loss. Any help is appreciated.

“Your request was directed to Computershare by Lumen Technologies, Inc. for response. As Lumen's Transfer Agent, we appreciate the opportunity to assist you.

We have researched our records and unfortunately we have no record of your account.
To determine if the shares were escheated, we suggest inquiring with the unclaimed property department in the state where the shareholder resided.”

who was the company that was acquired? was it a stock or cash purchase (or mix) by Lumen of this company? you may need to find the transfer agent of the original company first to find out what they did.

The original company which I purchased the shares in was called LVLT (Level 3 Communications). I don’t know if it was stock or cash purchase. To be honest, I don’t know anything about stocks and shares and should never have got involved but someone close to me advised me at the time. I don’t even know if there is a professional service out there who can help as I am not familiar with the field. Again, any advice is appreciated.

Hi I am in a similiar position having purchased Nortel shares in 2000 throught AIB using Goodbody stockbrokers. I also have contract notes from Goodbody stockbrokers. I have contacted AIB, Goodbody and Computershare but there is no record of the shares. I want to offset the loss as the company went bust but feel Revenue will need the share certs. Did you get any resolution…really appreciate any direction on this!
