Loft Insulation

I'm putting some insulation in the attic at the moment..There is a layer there already between the joists and I'm putting an extra layer over that at right angles.

There are about 15 or 16 joists . I'm wondering do I have to leave a gap down at the eave at wall plate level at every hoist or just a few for air to circulate.

Hi!

You need a gap along each unfortunately.

This here is incorrect as the insulation doesn't reach or lap over the tops of the internal or external leafs. It's actually the worst I've ever seen:

It should be more like this with the black/grey part either being a vent card or a 50mm gap:

What can I use to make sure the vent stays open after insulation is pushed into the eaves..
