    Depends on the distance.
4x 2.5mm SWA is standard for 30m or so.
You will probably need data too? Typically you would run two cables of Poly / Poly or External Cat 5.

You could put down some conduit with a rope to pull through any future cables that you need.

Ideally conduit so any cable can be installed and replaced later. Ideally you want mains power and data cabling. Also consider you may want fixed wiring at the house and gate end for an intercom, lights, CCTV, intruder system and away at the house end to open the gates. Often you want a sensor a good bit down the driveway to automatically start opening the gate a good time before you try drive into a slowly opening gate. Ideally this sensor is embedded into the tarmac ideally under the tarmac. This means not fiddling for fobs on exit nor waiting for eternity in your drive. You probably also want on the house side an intercom and a manual open gate button near the intercom and front door. Most systems have Internet connectivity and app so you may want to fully assess what the requirements are before starting any work. You definitely want a duct to both sides of the road near the gate. There are usually break beam sensors for safety near the gate usually on inside as gates normally open in.

I would highly recommend large ducts going all the way to utility room with strong ropes pre-installed for pulling cables.

Installers may also mount intercom away from gate on its own stand, so you can get it it from inside the car, They often prefer gate motors mounted under the ground at the gate hinges so gate design and gate opening is important to understand and specify early on. Ideally get a gate specialist rather than an ordinary electrician. Total cost for a good system will be eyewatering. Over time many people give up repairing it and manually move the gate or just leave it open. Are you fitting a post box/ parcel box on the outside?
