Where in pipe to place Vent Back Draught Shutter

Hi folks,

Fitting a bathroom extractor fan. Have a length of pipe and a back draught shutter and the fan. Where in the run of the pipe should the shutter go? Is it best to keep close to the fan? Close to the wall exit or something like midway? Also how would you fix the shutter? Glue?

Need to be as close as possible to the fan.

Could you not get one with an electiktaclly operated shutter, the set up u have will lose a lot of fan power just keeping it open

These flaps open on a very very light breeze, a fan is more than enough to open it.

I usually wrap then outer edge in vent tape (basically wider pvc tape) until it's at the thickness for a snug fit.

Is the tape to weigh it down a bit to stop it flapping in wind?

i would think its to hold the backdraft fitting snug in the pipe? its probably .5 to 1mm smaller in diameter so i think has the potential to move around in the pipe
