Subwoofer won't turn on - wharfedale dx2

I have a wharfedale dx2 setup 5.1 for the last number of years, 6 years or so I'm not sure, bought from yourselves, great setup and happy with it.

Today I noticed the subwoofer won't turn on there's an I/O switch but not doing anything, there's a fuse in the subwoofer which I tested and one in the plug too, all good.

Can these be repaired or is it a false economy like everything these days? Ive gone off throwing things out recently if I can help it, prefer to repair than replace if its anywhere near cost effective.

Is it a case of just buying another one? The 5 speakers still working perfectly.

Sorry to hear you are having issues with your DX2 subwoofer.

If you PM me your full address I can check if it was purchased from ourselves.
If it was I can get our service team to enquire with Wharfedale if a repair can be carried out.

If you did want to go ahead with the repair then there is a £50/ €60 estimate fee to be paid and once the subwoofer is returned back to us we can send it to the manufacturers engineer for assessment. They will then come back with a cost to fix and you can then decide if you feel it is worth repairing.

We can only offer repairs on items purchased from ourselves.

I've decided not to bother with attempting a repair here, but rather replace the subwoofer.

So I have the Sony STR DH 550 with wharfedale dx2 speakers, pretty happy with the whole setup.

Which subwoofer would you recommend that is compatible with this system? Original sub was connected via HDMI which i assume is the right thing to do?

Hi Buddy Bubs.

The DX2 subwoofer should be connected via a single phono cable. There would be no HDMI connections on the subwoofer.

An HDMI cable would be used to connect your TV to the Sony AV receiver as an HDMI will carry the picture and audio between the two.

For a new subwoofer to compliment the DX speakers you could check out the Klipsch R-8sw which is priced at €238. It is 50watts.

My apologies yes I got the cables mixed up it is the phono. Let me have a read of reviews of the 2 you have linked there and I'll be back to you.

I've this same system in for years now and to be honest it would blow you away in the room it's in, it's very impressive. But....if I was to upgrade what would you suggest, a new AV receiver or speakers as a starting point? I have someone I could pass this one on to that would be delighted with it, definitely not consignment it to scrapheap.

I rate it much more important than the quality of picture on the TV for a full experience.

What kind of features are in more modern AV receivers over my one?

Hi Buddy Bubs.

If thinking of upgrading I would start with the receiver and then this allows you to take your time upgrading the speakers as you will always have the DX2 speakers to use with a new amp.
A new amp will give things like 4K passthrough and better sound quality, some now have streaming capabilities and apps for operating them.

I like the look of the Q acoustics 3060s, watched a review or 2 and think it will be perfect for me.

Based in NI is there any chance you take one4allvouchers? Trying to get them used up!

Unfortunately we can not take the all4one vouchers as we are not setup for them.
