Hi all, I'm about to buy my first classic hopefully. But I have encountered a problem, I've always been a named driver on my wife's policy, since 2006! Never had my own policy, never needed it. Until now it seems, rang chill today and they flat out rewfused to qoute because I didn't have my own, Carole Nash too. Any suggestions?

Get your wife to insure it,and have you named on the policy.

If your wife insured with Campion through IVETA you can get open drive for anyone age 25 to 71.

No my wife is with another insurer and she does not want to take out a classic policy for me. Looks like I'm screwed. I'd have to buy a cheap car, insure it as my daily, then take out a classic policy. So we'd be a 3 car family. Ludicrous way of doing business.

Classic policies are designed for occasional use - and they're priced accordingly. The expectation is that you have a daily driver insured, which means you represent less of a risk. Sounds like you want a standard policy on a classic car.

Buy a cheap car - €2000+? + road tax etc

    Insure it as a daily - €500+?

Simply insure your classic car on a limited miles standard policy - €500 max!

This is what happens when you overthink things!

Your wife buys the classic and registers it in her name. She can insure it with Campion because she fulfills their requirements, ie has a modern car already insured in her name. Now if you are over 25 with a full licence you can drive that car on her classic insurance policy, nothing to do with her main car. It's so easy that, frankly, if she's not willing to do that she doesn't trust your driving or you personally.
