New flooring is needed in this room(the one in is ancient and has glue on it from when it was under some carpeting) looks like there will be cement flooring once this is up.

What would ppl recommend replacing it with? bearing in mind the homeowner isn't handy in the least. Limited budget at play as well.

Why not just put new vinyl over it? Some lovely ones nowadays

The selection of lino available locally is too expensive.

It looks to be quite small room, you'd either get an offcut from some carpet place that does them or even the bits for this purpose they sell in B&Q should be big enough. You won't get cheaper than that I'd imagine. It's not that difficult to put it down, maybe you have a friend who might be handy around the house? I have put down several floors of both vinyl and carpet plus vinyl tiles, you just need a bit of accuracy but I accept not everyone is good at this sort of stuff!
