Problems renewing student Leap card

When my student Leap card expired a few weeks ago, I started the renewal process and was told I could pick it up from my SU within 14 days. I misinterpreted that to mean that it would arrive there and I'd be notified, so I never went around to collect it in the time window, the process was closed and I was refunded. Oops. I tried to start the process again, but now it says I don't have a valid student card, which is true enough, so I tried to apply for a new one. When I did that it said I do have a valid card, or open card application process. Curious. With no way forward using the standard forms, asked the Leap card Customer Care team for help. They told me that I should make a new account with a different email address, which seems bizarre and I consider unacceptable. I asked the Customer Care team if they could do anything else about it, and over a week later, they have yet to respond.

Has anyone else experienced difficulties like that when dealing with the Leap card team? I'm curious to know if anyone here has knowledge of any secret passphrase or magical incantation that might make the Customer Care folks at the Leap card department of TFI actually solve a customer problem.

a young adult leapcard doesnt expire every year - lasts till your 25 and i think costs the same.

Perhaps fate is being kind to you here?

Young Adult vs Student Leap card are not the same. Student Leap valid until the end of Sept as far as I know.

the fares are the same. the cards are different.

    https://about.leapcard.ie/young-adult-and-student-card-launch

You can get 50% off adult public transport fares with the Young Adult or Student Leap Card.

The Young Adult Leap Card is available for all 19 to 25 year olds.

The Student Leap Card is only available for students in full time education who are either 16 -18 years of age or 26 years and above. Eligibility criteria are set out in more detail below.

the young adult is good till the day of your 25th birthday. Student must be renewed, assuming you continue to meet eligibility.

All well and good for young adults. It's not possible to apply for a student Leap card if you're eligible for one of those.
