Anyone still playing this awesome FPS?

Was a game changer when it came out and the gameplay still holds up well today 🙂

Ill never forget seeing it for the first time on my mates fancy Gateway PC with a huge (At the time!) 20 inch monitor.

Felt like I was playing a game with the same Visual quality of the CGI intros in PS1 games.

You can even play Quake 3 online through a browser -

And some open clone of it? https://openarena.live

I think this was one of the first games I ever played on a LAN, along with StarCraft and Return to Castle Wolfenstein.

Back in college we used to play this all the time in the computer lab. Great game. Mind blowing, for me, at the time to be able to play on the LAN. Serious craic as well!

Only time I ever really played this was on my Sega Dreamcast.

Never really thought to get it for PC after all of these years tbh! Was great back in the day though, it even had cross play with PC possible if a PC player downloaded the Dreamcast maps!

I recently bought the Quake collection on Steam during the sale. For some reason, modern shooters just don't bring the same satisfaction, they lack that fast-paced dynamic.

Quake live on steam is a tenner with a lot of players still.

    Well worth the tenner

I was fairly handy at q2, lithium mod was the thing. Lead the ranking on biggest continental site for a few weeks in its heyday. A rather dubious claim to fame ;) Rail gun one shot Fritti, lol.

But it's not something you can keep doing for long and still hold a serious job down. Too many all nighters and substances. Dabbled into q3 too but never got to any dizzy heights there. Good games good times.

Nowadays Starwars Battlefront is very good. The 2015 version moreso than the latest. Everyone has all the gear nothing left to unlock and its level playing field pure speed and skill.

Modern shooters all have hero systems or ranking/unlocks.

The likes of Quake and UT were even. Everyone started the same and it was a mad rush for weapons, armour etc.

The simplicity is what makes it so frantic.

I recently got a Doom server up and running in my homelab.

Should I set up a Quake 3 server so that we can organise some games together? :-P
