Hi, just wondering if anyone has either a generic code or an individual code that they are not using. We are travelling to the UK for less than 24 hours end of the month for a funeral. The price of the Ferries is frightening. Would be delighted if anyone had anything at all. TIA

Firstly sorry for your loss and hope you get sorted.

I am keeping an eye on offers myself at the moment but unfortunately the ferry companies have cut back on these.

The Best you are really going to get is the Irish Ferries "Short Break". When you go to book its going to be the right hand side beside flexi plus once your trip lasts between 6hrs and 5 days.

Being honest this offer (€380 for 2 in a car return on daytime ferries) is actually okay as ferry prices have been crazy since covid. They have a strange business model where they are happy to sail with a handful of cars paying huge money rather than more cars paying less.

Unfortunately you will shortly be met with a bunch of posters with no sympathy for your situation of trying to find a reasonable ferry fare to attend a short notice funeral and you will be abused for posting here instead of the requests section which has almost zero traffic. Unfortunately thats the new tone of the average bargain alerts poster where its all about one-upmanship. Hence why we only get a handful of real bargain posts anymore.

Both Irish Ferries and Stena accept Tesco Clubcard vouchers for 3x their value, just in case that's any good to you and you didn't realise

Thank you for that, I hadnt seen the short stay option that has brought irish ferries down a good bit and the irish ferries times as size of boat suit us better to be fair. And yes I am totally expecting / prepared the onslaught of abuse etc for the audacity to post where it might be seen etc

for a day trip you get special deals automatically when you look to book it, eg a 350 euro return is discounted about 25% because you are coming back within 48hours or so and I wouldnt consider €262 return to be crazy money for 2 (or 3 or 4) people travelling in a car.

If you don't like the ferry prices you can always book multiple flights for each person travelling, pay extra for checked luggage, pay for transport to airport or pay for parking at airport and pay for car hire at the destination, as an alternative to the ferry and depending on how lucky you are you might get it cheaper but it mightnt be a massive difference

On the voucher thing, I havent seen such a thing in years and they tend to do "sales" or kids travel for free nowadays as part of a standard booking process - and the discount for short breaks obviously.

Hi thanks for reply, I wouldnt see 260 or even 350 ish as bad either, but best I am getting for car with four adults is 450/460. I would however find this way more expensive than what I would have paid 4 / 5 years ago, just like everything else :)

So you are admitting that you know about the requests forum but you think that you are entitled to post on the main forum.

Do you think that you are more important than the rest of us? and you don't have to follow the rules?

Typical of so many people in society today.

Here he is. his internet friends will be along shortly to go all in on this one.

Did you even read the OP or was the head rush of an opportunity to chastise someone making you unable to focus? The OP has to attend a funeral at short notice which I am guessing means they need to book a ferry this morning. Show some empathy, you are whats wrong with society today.

Would the duty free day trip suit you, it's for foot passengers only.

And so it begins… no I am not more entitled, but neither is there any point in anyone, me included posting something were it won't be seen, get traffic or traction… If the mods see fit to take issue I'm sure post will be moved or removed as they see fit… I don't set out to judge or discipline anyone else for doing what they think best in any set of circumstance and would appreciate other to realise that they don't have that inherent right either… I don't think me posting the alerts versus requests section is one of the great wrongs of our time…

You are the one who didn't read properly. You are the one who needs to focus.

They are not travelling at short notice. They are travelling at the end of the month. So about 3 weeks away.

3 weeks for ferry travel is short notice… and prohibitive price wise

Fairness is what it is all about.

It is not fair that people who follow the rules are at a disadvantage and people who break the rules are at an advantage. And when caught breaking rules suffer little or no consequences.

    That's not fair.

How is anyone at a disadvantage - how is my post/query causing you or anyone else disadvantage in this instance ??? This is not the windmill to be tilting at…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,709 ✭✭✭green123

Anyone who follows the rules is at a disadvantage because their post will not be seen by many people in the requests section.

You know that and you deliberately decided that the rules should not apply to you, because you seem to think that you are more important than others and that you are entitled to break the rules to gain an advantage.

If the Mods/Admins have an issue with me posting here they will make a decision on that, if you have an issue with how the site operates or if you want to report my post please take it up with them. There is absolutely no point or reason in coming on here to chastise me for using my discretion in how or where I post. I am not here to hurt or offend anyone. I still maintain my decisions/actions have not put anyone at a disadvantage.

What the hell is wrong with you? Somebody has need to travel for a funeral and you think it's okay to post this?

Re. the clubcard suggestion - I know you said you can't avail of it, but just FYI: If you do you can't claim the short trip discount. So it's one or the other there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,370 ✭✭✭✭dulpit

Boards's usage has dropped way down. Loads of forums that were essential when this place was hopping are no longer really required. Attitudes like the previous poster isn't going to encourage increased usage here too…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,709 ✭✭✭green123

My attitude is that everybody should be treated fairly and equally.

No special treatment because nobody is more important than anyone else

I see talk here about the Irish Ferries short break. Stena does that as well. Bang in your dates and at the later steps, it discounts to the short break price.
