    hi

i recently moved to sky fibre broadband 1GB (via virgin).

i ditched sky modem/router and connected the ONT to my UDM router.

i use smart dns proxy for streaming services on apple tv and shield tv.

everything was working fine suddenly it stopped.

when checked with support, i was told sky broadband use transparent dns proxy due to which their dns servers are not seen.

    has anyone faced this problem?

anyone found a solution for this?

I think the sky router intercept the DNS traffic and fordward all of them to the ISP DNS server.

Sky are not using any forced DNS proxying, nor does the router intercept outbound DNS queries to redirect to their servers.

EDNS Client Subnet was enabled on some of the Sky DNS servers in the last number of days, It would be worth checking the UDM pro (Or anyone else running PiHole without the Sky router) that you are not forwarding EDNS data.

Hi, I hope it’s OK to ask a related question here.

VM installed FTTH in my area recently and I have now contracted with Sky for 1GB service. I previously had VM coaxial setup and put the VM router in bridge mode and used by own ASUS router. I want to continue to use my ASUS router and ideally remove the sky modem completely and plug the ONT output directly into the WAN port on the ASUS.

I thought this might be just a case of changing some WAN settings as below but I am having no luck. Any help on settings for Sky/VM FTTH for own router would be much appreciated.

    Type: PPOE

    username: anything@skydsl

    password: anythingsfsf

    VLAN - 10

    Yes these values should work,

Technically the piece before the @ symbol should be 12 digits and only contain 0-9 and lower case a-f and not begin with 0000, so you would be better off using the mac address from the sticker on the back of your hub.

so the username will look more like c0ffee547863@skydsl the password can be whatever you want
VLAN 10 is correct, of you have an option to set PCP this should be 0 (Could also be called .1p or COS in your router interface)

If your sky router is connected (green internet light on) and you disconnect it from the ONT, it might take up to 30 mins for your own router to successfully get connected, as your MAC address will change, but the PPP session will still be active on the Sky gateway, this will time out after 30 mins.

hi i run udm pro without sky router

my ont connected directly to udm

how do i check this edns data forwarding?

i was speaking to few on sky forum and thought it was around ip address being in UK not in Ireland.

i dont know if that is the issue for me

    i ran this command

    dig +nocl TXT o-o.myaddr.l.google.com +short

    got this result

    "edns0-client-subnet 51.182.x.x/24"

    it shows edns is on

    update:

i have sky fibre at home.

when i connect ont to sky modem - i get ip address within 51.186.x.x

when i connect ont to my unifi router directly without sky modem, i get ip address within 51.182.x.x range

the problem is 51.182 shows i am in UK and most of my region based services dont work.

also none of my smart dns feature work too.

i tried resetting ont to refresh ip but no luck.

    any suggestions?

Sky might track your public IP by the MAC address coming from the device behind the ONT. When this is not one their known modem's MAC addresses it may delegate the DHCP loop to another point in their backbone, apparently in the UK.

    I'm guessing here though.
