Radio Caroline has confirmed that Johnny Walker will make a pre-recorded featured appearance on the main service today, to mark his radio retirement.

It is a sad day, Johnnie is hanging up his headphones due to bad health. It is his own decision to go off air now and to finish on his own terms.

Tune in to Radio Caroline at 5pm today to hear what happens.

Listening to 'JW's last Sound of the 70s on (BBC) Radio 2, an emotional listen.

Many happy listens on a Saturday afternoon on Radio 1 when JW played an eclectic choice of music .

Funny story about Radio Caroline back in those days, Johnnie would often play a track from beginning to end without any interruptions , Caroline would record the show and then use the recordings to air such tracks as Tracy Chapmans - Fast Car

Legend is too often used , but Johnnie Walker is a a true Radio legend and will be missed

He signed off in style … twice.

He told the BBC that he was doing his last radio programme today, but he also recorded a special 20 min item for Caroline that went out as soon as the 5pm news jingle fired on BBC R2, so his last radio broadcast was actually on Caroline. A nice touch ... Johnnie Walker, a radio rebel in the 60's and still at it today.

He never forgot his roots and he always appreciated his first big break on Caroline. I thought his sign off on Radio Caroline was even more emotional than the BBC Radio 2 show.

Johnnie Walker, good luck and thank you for your service (to radio).
