Disintegrating Gamins

In the past few months, I have come across three cases of Garmn Edge screens coming unstuck and the units

completely failing. Two were 830s with touch screens and one was a 530. In my own case I first noticed a section of the black border surrounding the display had turned silvery and, worried that moisture had gotten in, put some glue and tape over the edge of the glass. This worked for a few weeks until, after a very wet day, the touchscreen wouldn't respond at all. In the other two cases, the glass and display parted from the body of the unit while riding.

Despite the two 830s being well outside their warranty periods, both of us were offered reconditioned units that look as if they were unsold rather than reconditioned. Anybody have similar problems?

So far so good, but reassuring to hear Garmin were decent to resolve the issue.

    🙈🙉🙊

Not exactly similar, but I had a 530 replaced earlier this year - outside of warranty - due to a non-functional barometric sensor which I suspect was caused by water ingress. I've heard of 530/830s being replaced out of warranty, including for others on the board, so I suspect it might be a known issue

I've an 830 touchscreen for a few years now. no issues. i got it from Garmin when i contacted them about repairing an old 1000 which was outside warranty. As the 1000 was discontinued at the time, they give me 30% off a new 830.

Never come across that but I've had multiple experience of Garmin customer service, all hugely positive.

My 830 also replaced a damaged 1000 with the same discount and I've been really happy with it unlike previous models. Reporting my recent problem on their website got no response so I rang and spoke wh a very helpful agent. Everything went smoothly after that.

Have had a few returns of various Garmin products and I've found their customer service the best of anyone I've ever had to deal with. Recently dropped my 945 watch and it affected the seal, after a few weeks it finally stopped working. It was both my fault and well outside warranty (I actually bought it second hand from a fellow boardsie). They offered me a reconditioned unit for 150 which I found more than fair. After about a week of it not shipping I got in touch and they told me that they were waiting on stock and wouldn't have for a few weeks so offered me a 955 at no extra expense 😀
