Previous employer wont reply to PAS reference request

    Hi folks,

I am in a clearance process and more than one week ago PAS informed me that they would contact to one of my previous employers (say employer A) in the list I provided- but since then my ex-manager seems ignored the reference request of PAS. I tried to contact him but he wont reply either. I had no issue at work with him and the team when I worked there and relation between the team, him and myself was really good.

Anyone had the same issue ? I also supplied another previous employer (say employer B) in the reference list and I contacted them in advanced and they are willing to give a reference.

If employer A would not reply the request of PAS, would PAS send a new request to my previous employer B instead ?

    Thanks folks,

They should, normally you'd give 2 but they usually just ask the more recent one…maybe have another one on hand in case if your man is being pratty about it

Something similar happened to me, and it turned out that my manager never got the emails because I had put a period at the end of the email which was copied over by PAS.

Be no harm to check if that's the issue or something similar.

    Thanks Guffy.

Yeah, I have emailed my ex-manager a few days to check but also no reply so I am unsure what's wrong.

How did you sort out the issue ? Did finally your manager reply the reference request to PAS?

I have supplied another reference (where I worked more than 4 years ago) to PAS just in case they would not receive their current request. But, I am unsure if PAS would contact this new reference I provided or just simply withdrawn the provisional offer due to "cannot get the reference" reason. Have you any opinion on that?

Perhaps you could ask someone else in the organisation that is familiar with you. I would even consider asking a former work colleague from that company. If you have one to give you a reference they could pretend they were your manager, or had a supervisory role.

Ring PAS and ask, it will not be the first time this issue has been encountered.

also do not get anyone to write you a reference pretending to be anyone else or in a position they never held

    Quit with the emails.

Pick up the phone and speak to your previous employer.

I think generally all PAS want to know is that you DID actually work there, and/or didn't get fired for misconduct or something. I don't think they really care about how good or bad you were at your job, so really your old HR dept should be able to supply that basic info, if your ex-manager isn't responding

I have recently seen a form from HSE of my friend - and there were a list of questions that evaluate his performance and character at his previous company. I would think there would be similar form from PAS - which HR might not be able to complete. But, I have supplied contact details of a member of HR team - who I used to interacted with in the past.

My worries is PAS would not do another request to additional references I supplied and would just withdrawn the consideration if my manager in the previous workplace would not reply.

this - most companies now dont give references just statements of employment now

Check his Linkedin account. There's a possibility that he's no longer in that job, and thus no longer has access to the email if it's a work email account?

Yes. I tried everything to contact him but I have not received any response and to be honest I am unsure his current condition. I spoke to someone in my previous organisation and they said they have not seen him for over a month.

    Thanks folks for your feedbacks.

My previous employer has returned reference to PAS. Their condition was not good and they are in the US atm.
