Pension Payments & Tax Relief

Revenue have requested evidence of my pension contribution to my private RAC (retirement annuity contract). I have the certificate from pension provider but the contribution I paid in 2023, part refers to small contribution for 2022 tax year and the remainder for 2023 tax year. In 2024, I will be paying a small contribution again for 2023 and the remainder for 2024 tax year. Reason being, when I pay contribution in any given year, I do not know my final earnings for that year, 2 separate jobs (paye and self employed). Should this be a problem for revenue or would they be ok with it.

The payment on the certificate I have for each year is slightly different to the contribution I have claimed relief on in Form 11.

Login to the Revenue online service (ROS) and send them a note explaining the details. When you login, click on 'my enquiries' in the upper right, then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on 'add new enquiry'. They take a few days to respond but someone will read it and will come back with a query if they need more info from you.

Don't go overboard with the details, I usually type my query into a Notepad (the free text editor that comes with Windows) session, edit it for clarity and brevity, then copy & paste it into the ROS enquiry screen. No need to add your name, PPSN number etc, that will all be on the screen when the revenue official is reading it.
