Parcel wrongly delivered to me

I received a parcel I did not order with our address but somebody else's name. I don't know who the delivery company is as we have electric gates that were closed at the time. The delivery guy obviously just decided to chuck it over anyway as the first I noticed was the box lying in the middle of our drive. I thought they were supposed to get someone to sign for it.

We had the same thing happen last year but the delivery guy came up to our door and we were able to tell him to keep it.

Can anyone tell me how I tmight find out which company delivered or what I should do in this situation?

If there is no label with a clue to it's origin you could open it.

There may be an invoice/delivery docket inside.

If there is contact them and tell them to collect it.

If not just keep it for a while in case they turn up looking for it.

Ta for the reply. Looked and there is no invoice/docket, unfortunately. If anyone has any other ideas...

Is there no courier information on it? If it has a barcode they might be able to find something with it. What was in the parcel?

Google the name with your town name. My old house it turned out that a nearby street was almost the same name as ours and that's how we found out via Facebook.

After that it's either open for a docket/phone number or get in contact with courier. It is very odd there is no hint who the courier was, all the major ones will have some sort of sticker on it. Maybe ask your postie does he recognise the name.

    Drugs/ meds?

That was what the more paranoid side of my brain was thinking. A few days later someone turns up saying sorry, I accidentally put down your address, I live just up the road.

Doesn't explain the lack of courier labels unless it's a local pick up drop off job, and most of those you definitely get your signature as they are normally rush jobs.

I opened the box and it's just a parts for a child's bike, which matches the description on the outside, so nothing dodgy there.

I checked the name on Facebook,it throws up nothing, but not everybody is on Facebook. Googled the name and it brings up no results.

There are codes that I scanned. I think they are diametrix (?) Codes. The scan just brought up the letters and numbers already on the box. I'm hopeless technically so it's possible I did something wrong but when I clicked on the 'search the web' option it brought up no results. Likewise with the barcodes.

The purchaser will report it as undelivered.

The sender will send out a replacement or make a refund.

You have done all you can, just stick it in a corner for a few weeks in case someone shows up.

Had two parcels come from Amazon Germany recently. Both arrived the same time ('handed to resident' - nonsense, this wasn't even attempted) and one wasn't for me. I did an online chat with Amazon and they refunded the cost of the missing one. I asked if they wanted a photo of the wrong one, they said no. Then the correct thing arrived two days later…
