This is not a welfare bashing thread, its only focused on one of the qualifying criteria for the Domiciliary and Carers allowance that is messed up. Children with Autism and other health conditions that are worthy of this payment and their parent(s) deserve as much support as possible to ensure these children get proper services and care.

My fiancee just told me the girl her brother is dating (note its not his child, hes an innocent party in this) was just awarded DCA and CA. She drank whilst pregnant with not a care in the world. She's now pregnant again and is still drinking and clubbing. She was paid over €5k in back payments into her bankast week by the DSP.

Surely you should be prosecuted for endangering the child instead and made to pay the state for the care of your child. Why aren't Gardai and Tusla kicking down their door and taking this poor child out of that environment.

Because there is no way that the majority in this country will accept that there is NO safe level of alcohol in pregnancy.

what has this hit to do with the DCA?

I’m guessing the child has fetal alcohol syndrome and is permanently disabled.

OP the DCA is for the child not the parents. Hopefully they’ll get some benefit from it.
