hi can't seem to find any 2018/2019 Lexus LS500H price on the VRT tool ( any month of registration) and there'd have been a few of those sold here new during that time period -not many mind you - but a few all the same - so there should be a price on the site …. am I missing something in using the tool ?

    many thanks.

if it’s not there then you won’t get an estimate until you present the car.

I would guess that a 19 might have an OMSP of €70k and an 18 €60k.

The 500h 2wd is in the second highest band of VRT (far as I know) so estimate €24500 VRT for a 19 or €21000 for an 18.

It’s obviously in a high annual tax band too.

Some months back it did give an estimate, I looked at one from the UK to see what it would be, it was around €25k. Price of the UK car I was entering was circa £45k.

I always thought the OMSP was based on local prices if they were available , i.e. if an LS500h was sold new from Lexus Ireland, in Ireland, then that would be taken as the OMSP , and that the estimates were only for cars models that werent sold in the ROI before.

They will just check Donedeal to see what the current OMSP is

no, they often don’t list prices for exotic/rare cars nobody really buys in volume that would require unnecessary updating.

It's nothing to do with unnecessary updating. It's an intentional practice to discourage people in Ireland from importing cars and to punish those that do. Most people wouldn't take the risk of committing to buying and importing a car without knowing how much they'll need to pay. Those that do are usually landed with a stupidly high bill that they have to pay in full before they can dispute it and present their argument that it should be lower.

I disagree. Most cars on the VRT calculator are highly undervalued. A lot of older cars have an OMSP that is up to 50% lower than what the car is actually worth. Newer cars have more accurate OMSP’s. If they wanted to discourage importing they would get rid of the calculator altogether.

I was talking specifically about cars that they intentionally remove/leave off the calculator (ie. anything that's remotely interesting, fast, rare, etc) that Colm alluded to in the previous post.

These types of cars aside, it seems that they've recently added every manufacturer imaginable to the calculator but when you try to select some of the most basic and generic models you get a message: "No Vehicle found for Combination Selected".

Yeah, admittedly they have really messed up the calculator as of last week. Basically impossible to use now.

yes, this is more what I was referring to - it seems to be a data issue inside the calculator
