    Hi folks..

Looking to get myself a new PC .. My old rig was built many many moons ago for gaming,, I dont game anymore,, this build is completely for Home working.. storage of photos etc,, I dont want and off the shelf build, always built my own and would like to stay with that,

Goal is - Working from home - Large 27" monitor and smaller Work Monitor etc, Win 11 (as my old build dosnt support TPM 2) Spend would be max 600

Here`s what I`m looking at - any advise of input would be greatly appreciated

    https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/8MdZn6

    AMD Ryzen 7 5700G 3.8 GHz 8-Core Processor
be quiet! Pure Rock Slim 2 CPU Cooler
    Thermalright TF9 1.5 g Thermal Paste
Gigabyte B450 AORUS ELITE V2 ATX AM4 Motherboard

    Modern CPU/onboard graphics.

Reuse the PSU, it's a very low-power system anyway.

Use your budget to upgrade your main monitor to high-refresh 1440p.

Asus AP201 smaller-size case is over-budget but worth it.

I don't like it because AMD put the graphics part of the 5700G on life support a year ago which means they've essentially stopped developing for it and driver updates will be rare with only fixes and no features. The fact you survived on an R9 200 until now shows that even the complete ending of driver support isn't the instant death of a graphics card but I'd feel nasty buying one now.

Nearly all the AMD AM5 cpus come with onboard graphics which might be fine for you and honestly if it isn't (because you discover your photo software actually uses a gpu) the 5700G probably isn't the right answer. There are a couple of sane AM5 apu's though with much more powerful onboard graphics (both more and a newer generation so fuller featured), still very low in AAA gaming terms but buckets for most light uses and no fear of it reaching end of life before your new PC is very long in the tooth. 8600g and 8700g (price has dropped recently).

The newest Intel cpus coming in 2 weeks have vastly improved graphics also but you won't be considering those without spending a bunch more or waiting until next year as only the overclocking chips and high end chipset are coming now. All the Intel cpus out now are like the basic graphics on the non-G latest Ryzens, very little more than display outputs (with a very nice media engine), I wouldn't rule them out and would probably prefer it to a 5600g/5700g myself, you would be looking at an i5-12400 for just below the price of a 5700g.

The related option is a cheap graphics card starting at maybe €120 for an Intel A310 (but A380 much better value for about €20 more) which would be one way to stay on AM4, switch from the 5700g to a 5600 and it's likely cheaper than an 8600g.

You shouldn't "need" thermal paste, any cooler will come with some unless you re-use your Hyper 212! If you are going for a new cooler the Thermalright dual tower coolers are about as good as it gets and usually within €10 of the Dark Rock Slim. You probably don't need any cooler at all past the stock cooler, unless you go wild and switch to something like a 12600K, but if you are willing to spend on the beQuiet the Thermalright's are probably a no brainer.

You whole build somehow feels to me like it's scraping near the bottom of a lot of barrels but not really picking out particularly good value or real savings for it. The B450 board instead of B550 (hell or A620), the coolermaster case looking like it's from the 2000s (which I don't think you can order here anyway), even the 500W semi-modular beQuiet just feels like a very small saving over say €80 for a 650W gold fully modular MSI MAG A650GL or €85 for a RM650. I don't think anything is bad (well the case might be) but I think there are probably better choices, I'm just not proposing anything specific though cause of the AM4/AM5/Intel/graphics card question really ;)

I'm a build your own person but I know there's some gray lines and times it's not the right answer so despite what you said I have to ask if you've considered something like a mini-PC:

    https://store.minisforum.uk/products/minisforum-um790-pro?variant=44785406279958

which is about €600 complete with ram and ssd from them.

    or

    https://store.minisforum.uk/products/minisforum-ms-a1

which is quite unique, £239 for an AM5 board with case and power supply and features you won't usually get on a board for that price (e.g. usb4) let alone the less usual ones like dual nics and oculink nevermind going itx to try and match the size.

Finally I'm not sure what you could really sell your Dell monitor for, it might be over-valued despite it's age given it was quite premium but I can't see any sanity in selling it and buying a new lower res panel, I'd understand more if you were replacing it with a modern €200ish 27" 1440p panel! ok I can see one reason, failing eyesight and a dislike of scaling but in that case I'd be trying to get an even bigger 1080p monitor or given the prices that could mean 4K but just running it at 1080p so it's at least just a clean doubling.

If I've forgotten anything at this point I'll let someone else jump in cause as usual I've typed far too much but hope it helps you get the right answer for you.

    thanks K.O.kiki

Overbudget, but yeh I get were your coming from,, Might reduce Ram down to 16gB, I dont really need anything more

While this is Effectively a "work pc" its really just to give me real estate if you know what I mean, hence the 27inch
screen,. I need them for work having multiple RDP sessions open and the ability to be Able to compare things side by side
is really why I need and two screens is essential ,, I dont really need 1440 anymore,, but can be Convinced otherwise

    Thanks Minitrue

Lots to think about there,, The reason I was asking about the built is because I haven't been keeping up on hardware and
current PC was the last build was 10 years ago (while I do work in IT, its more Server related and Cisco etc)
and I moved my gaming to Console, and no longer need a RIG like that anymore OR graphics card but as per K.O.Kiki`s build
reusing my PSU would/Should give me the option to add a GPU at some stage if things change (highly unlikely) abd I have always
went down the Intel route and this is the first venture into AMD world. In regards to the Dell 27" if I got 50 squids for it,
would be happy, otherwise I would either donate it to some charity or it will end up in the recycle bin, but replacing it
with a new 27" 1440P panel is a very good option, and would be happy too.. As stated above, for me its about View real estate,
and what I need it for now rather than gaming... And thanks again,, it does indeed help... much appreciated

I don't think there's any need to overthink things for a general home office type PC. The build in your OP would last years for that type of task. The 5700G power wise is comparable to around a 3700X. Not the latest tech, but still a powerful processor for general use.

Even your "old" build would be fine with more RAM and maybe throw in an i7-4770/4790 for pocket change, would buy you another year, two or three.

Not worth selling the old monitor. It's not worth much and you'd only be replacing it with a lower resolution model, if you're doing side by side work dropping down to 1080P would be a huge pain in the ass, and image quality will be worse.

A mini PC is also a very viable option, MiniForums have some amazing builds like this. Integrated graphics are also much better than 5700G with newer support.

Any thoughts on this build? Anything to change?

Possibly looking at Swapping out that Ryzen 7 for something better…..

These Miniform PCs, are a very viable option to be honest…
