    Hi folks..

Goal is - Working from home - Large 27" monitor and smaller Work Monitor etc, Win 11 (as my old build dosnt support TPM 2) Spend would be max 600

Here`s what I`m looking at - any advise of input would be greatly appreciated

    https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/8MdZn6

    AMD Ryzen 7 5700G 3.8 GHz 8-Core Processor

    Modern CPU/onboard graphics.

Reuse the PSU, it's a very low-power system anyway.

Use your budget to upgrade your main monitor to high-refresh 1440p.

Asus AP201 smaller-size case is over-budget but worth it.

I don't like it because AMD put the graphics part of the 5700G on life support a year ago which means they've essentially stopped developing for it and driver updates will be rare with only fixes and no features. The fact you survived on an R9 200 until now shows that even the complete ending of driver support isn't the instant death of a graphics card but I'd feel nasty buying one now.

Nearly all the AMD AM5 cpus come with onboard graphics which might be fine for you and honestly if it isn't (because you discover your photo software actually uses a gpu) the 5700G probably isn't the right answer. There are a couple of sane AM5 apu's though with much more powerful onboard graphics (both more and a newer generation so fuller featured), still very low in AAA gaming terms but buckets for most light uses and no fear of it reaching end of life before your new PC is very long in the tooth. 8600g and 8700g (price has dropped recently).

The newest Intel cpus coming in 2 weeks have vastly improved graphics also but you won't be considering those without spending a bunch more or waiting until next year as only the overclocking chips and high end chipset are coming now. All the Intel cpus out now are like the basic graphics on the non-G latest Ryzens, very little more than display outputs (with a very nice media engine), I wouldn't rule them out and would probably prefer it to a 5600g/5700g myself, you would be looking at an i5-12400 for just below the price of a 5700g.

The related option is a cheap graphics card starting at maybe €120 for an Intel A310 (but A380 much better value for about €20 more) which would be one way to stay on AM4, switch from the 5700g to a 5600 and it's likely cheaper than an 8600g.

You shouldn't "need" thermal paste, any cooler will come with some unless you re-use your Hyper 212! If you are going for a new cooler the Thermalright dual tower coolers are about as good as it gets and usually within €10 of the Dark Rock Slim. You probably don't need any cooler at all past the stock cooler, unless you go wild and switch to something like a 12600K, but if you are willing to spend on the beQuiet the Thermalright's are probably a no brainer.

You whole build somehow feels to me like it's scraping near the bottom of a lot of barrels but not really picking out particularly good value or real savings for it. The B450 board instead of B550 (hell or A620), the coolermaster case looking like it's from the 2000s (which I don't think you can order here anyway), even the 500W semi-modular beQuiet just feels like a very small saving over say €80 for a 650W gold fully modular MSI MAG A650GL or €85 for a RM650. I don't think anything is bad (well the case might be) but I think there are probably better choices, I'm just not proposing anything specific though cause of the AM4/AM5/Intel/graphics card question really ;)

I'm a build your own person but I know there's some gray lines and times it's not the right answer so despite what you said I have to ask if you've considered something like a mini-PC:

    https://store.minisforum.uk/products/minisforum-um790-pro?variant=44785406279958

which is about €600 complete with ram and ssd from them.

    or

    https://store.minisforum.uk/products/minisforum-ms-a1

which is quite unique, £239 for an AM5 board with case and power supply and features you won't usually get on a board for that price (e.g. usb4) let alone the less usual ones like dual nics and oculink nevermind going itx to try and match the size.

Finally I'm not sure what you could really sell your Dell monitor for, it might be over-valued despite it's age given it was quite premium but I can't see any sanity in selling it and buying a new lower res panel, I'd understand more if you were replacing it with a modern €200ish 27" 1440p panel! ok I can see one reason, failing eyesight and a dislike of scaling but in that case I'd be trying to get an even bigger 1080p monitor or given the prices that could mean 4K but just running it at 1080p so it's at least just a clean doubling.

If I've forgotten anything at this point I'll let someone else jump in cause as usual I've typed far too much but hope it helps you get the right answer for you.

    thanks K.O.kiki

Overbudget, but yeh I get were your coming from,, Might reduce Ram down to 16gB, I dont really need anything more

While this is Effectively a "work pc" its really just to give me real estate if you know what I mean, hence the 27inch
screen,. I need them for work having multiple RDP sessions open and the ability to be Able to compare things side by side
is really why I need and two screens is essential ,, I dont really need 1440 anymore,, but can be Convinced otherwise

    Thanks Minitrue

Lots to think about there,, The reason I was asking about the built is because I haven't been keeping up on hardware and
current PC was the last build was 10 years ago (while I do work in IT, its more Server related and Cisco etc)
and I moved my gaming to Console, and no longer need a RIG like that anymore OR graphics card but as per K.O.Kiki`s build
reusing my PSU would/Should give me the option to add a GPU at some stage if things change (highly unlikely) abd I have always
went down the Intel route and this is the first venture into AMD world. In regards to the Dell 27" if I got 50 squids for it,
would be happy, otherwise I would either donate it to some charity or it will end up in the recycle bin, but replacing it
with a new 27" 1440P panel is a very good option, and would be happy too.. As stated above, for me its about View real estate,
and what I need it for now rather than gaming... And thanks again,, it does indeed help... much appreciated

I don't think there's any need to overthink things for a general home office type PC. The build in your OP would last years for that type of task. The 5700G power wise is comparable to around a 3700X. Not the latest tech, but still a powerful processor for general use.

Even your "old" build would be fine with more RAM and maybe throw in an i7-4770/4790 for pocket change, would buy you another year, two or three.

Not worth selling the old monitor. It's not worth much and you'd only be replacing it with a lower resolution model, if you're doing side by side work dropping down to 1080P would be a huge pain in the ass, and image quality will be worse.

A mini PC is also a very viable option, MiniForums have some amazing builds like this. Integrated graphics are also much better than 5700G with newer support.

Any thoughts on this build? Anything to change?

Possibly looking at Swapping out that Ryzen 7 for something better…..

These Miniform PCs, are a very viable option to be honest…

Thanks guys for your previous feedback..

Ok, so the last few Months things have changed, and requirements changed.. after getting bored with ps5 games
I reinstalled in Mid November, Steam and WOW and a few old games I always enjoyed and changed my mind on PC gaming and stepping back in..
with the Aid of a nice Work voucher over Christmas, Im looking at spending 1500 (tops)

-Monitor - rethinking the side by side 27" monitors as a Single 27" idea

Im not sure on Curved or Flat (having problems finding samples in shops to get a feel of them),., but a 34" curved or Flat 37 (curved or flat) are winning options right now. Again the idea is real estate to allow work and also allow for gaming, the 34/37 will be the main screen with work 21" on a bracket above the main screen (anyone know best place for Suitable Monitor arms?) -Minimum Size Monitor - 34" Preference - 37" (but mostly to expensive and out of my budget,, so not really an option?)

-GPU, with the ongoing saga with new GPU`s,….

    Options are

-Wait and just use my current old card (happy to wait a Few months) and go for a 5070ti when the madness stops or wait for ... insert other model/makers here

-go in now for a older spec high end card that will do for a few years, knowing that this
PC gaming build will last at least 5 years + and can switch GPU`s as I go.

Case - As before, lots of RGB`s etc are not really my thing, I dont have the desktop space to put a big Pc on (desk is 140CM L x 60cm D) so it would go on the floor I think
as its more about function that looks - maybe something like Corsair 4000D Airflow ATX Mid Tower Case but not as expensive?

-Power if its still possible to use my old power supply? then I will (rather spend it on something else)

Based on what Im looking at gaming is around this lot.
    -Indiana Jones
    -C.O.D
    -BattleField
    -Cyberpunk
    - WOW is unplayable with my current rig now..and I used to play End game Raids and looking to get back into that a little
    - Baluders Gate 3
    - FPS

and this is what Im looking at and hoping to fine tune

Lastly Im looking to pull the trigger in the next two weeks on this, but helpful advise on my thoughts around GPU/Monitor etc the options to spend 1000-1200 on PC parts alone and wait for GPU and or Monitor setup until June/july is also possible and fine tuning the above or cutting out expense with a better cheaper option etc, would be greatly appreciated,.

Swapped out the 7900x for a 7800X3D and dropped the 4060ti 16Gb for a 7800XT. Saved a few quid on some other parts and comes out the same for something that is far more powerful.

Still, I wouldn't buy a new GPU just yet. Your budget isn't high enough to buy high enough into last gen. You might be fine but then again if this is going to be for the long term then what is a few weeks at this point?

    https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/NdTvqH

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 522 ✭✭✭dark_jedi_ire

Awesome, Thanks Coyler -really appreciate that,, am going with that spec …

-Upgrade my old power supply which is - Corsair Builder Series CX750 80PLUS Bronze, 750W yes its 10 years gold,, but?

-GPU, Im gonna wait as you mention for a few Weeks, see how this all pans out..

-will add the Peerless assassin CPU cooler also to the list,,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭Coyler

For the cooler, which ever is cheaper.

10 year old PSU is really your call but at that point most builders will not move it to a new system. Me included.

yeah, GPU market is all over the place but I’d be choosing between a 5070 and a 9070 at your price range and requirements. Rumors of Nvidia sending out rebates already.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 522 ✭✭✭dark_jedi_ire

OK, so I haven't ordered from these companies before,, Both Alza and Galaxus seem to only delivery in Germany,., How would I get around this?

And Would this Cooler be ok?

Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE 66.17 CFM CPU Cooler

    Thanks

Phantom Spirit is Thermalright's best 120mm cooler, though you can consider Royal Knight instead for maximum RAM clearance.

    They are available on Amazon.

    Thanks K.O.Kiki

    Now added instead , Thanks

Think I may have answered my own Question

    ???

Address In Germany Mail & Package Forwarding - Mailboxde.com

Or order everything for Caseking or Amazon de?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 537 ✭✭✭Coyler

And Computer Universe. I've only used Caseking and Amazon de so far but I believe those 3 are simplest options. I set them up as my default merchants in PC Parkpicker for Germany.

Check out https://geizhals.eu/ and https://www.hagglezon.com/ for price comparisons but I've found those 3 above are hard to beat.

Looking at possibly adding some Extra Fans to the build,, instead of the CPU Cooler etc

GPU Im looking at in the future is RTX 9070 xt (I think)

Looking at adding the Montech Hyperflow ARGB

Montech HyperFlow ARGB 360 All In One Slim 360mm Black Intel/AMD CPU Water Cooler LN146758 - HyperFlow ARGB 360 (B) | SCAN UK

    And reverse Fans

Thermaltake CT120 EX Reverse ARGB Sync 65.82 CFM 120 mm Fans 3-Pack

Looking the build and as I have most parts now (except GPU and Monitor and CPU)

    https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/bJz33w

the Build List about is what I am going with .. (later stage will get the GPU) however Im concerned about the Wattage,, 650W power and the 9070 from my understanding should be based around the 750w min.. Is this nuts now? scrap the fans? and just stick the with peerless assassin? Its build and takes over half the Case….. Should I return the 650W? Do I need an ARGB Controller or can the motherboard handle the settings of RGB color?

Lastly on the build its states in Compatibility Notes the following,, do I need to order these?

    • Note: A USB 2.0 to USB 3.2 Gen 1 header adapter is required.
    • Note: A USB 3.2 Gen 1 to USB 3.2 Gen 2 header adapter is required.

    Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 813 ✭✭✭minitrue

On the compatibility notes, if you have already bought the motherboard and the case then I think just wire up the usb 3.2 gen 1 and leave it at that so one of your front usb will not be connected. If you haven't bought the board or case you could change whatever you haven't got.

pc partpicker says 590W peak and it's not an absolute top tier power supply so I wouldn't be happy about it. Like it's close enough you have to start thinking about what usb devices you are plugging in and what power they draw. 750W better but I'd say 850W. For extra motivation the closer to 100% you run the power supply the closer to 100% it's fan will run.

No comment from me on aio, reverse fans, and rgb ;) Well ok, I will say that rgb/argb is a minefield of incompatible things so do your research before buying bits and pieces before you end up with say 3 controllers in a mess of cables taking 4 or 5 bits of software running!

Or Should I be looking to keeping the original stated

PowerColor Hellhound OC Radeon RX 7800 XT 16 GB Video Card

or be looking at a 9070 (none xt)

Watching things like this and with current MSRP…,, its a mess

Of the Original Build by Coyler

    https://de.pcpartpicker.com/list/NdTvqH

    CPU
AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D 4.2 GHz 8-Core Processor (not yet bought)

    CPU Cooling
I have already bought the Thermalright Royal Knight 120 CPU Cooler (and I thought it "might" be big, but..... its enormous) from amazon de ..
    https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B0DK6JRSWD/ref=pe_115951_1266798131_em_1p_0_lm

    Motherboard
ASRock B650M-H/M.2+ Micro ATX AM5 Motherboard (bought)

    Memory
    G.Skill Flare X5 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR5-6000 CL30 Memory (bought)

    Storage
Crucial P3 Plus 1 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive (bought)

Video Card - As part of my original I was going to keep by old card for a while as the GPU market established (summer finger crossed) so that`s by above post about the RTX 9070 or RTX 9070 xt vs Coylers original post RX7800 xt etc -

    Case
Montech XR ATX Mid Tower Case (Bought)

    Power Supply (from Galaxus)
MSI MAG A650BN 650 W 80+ Bronze Certified ATX Power Supply (bought -and kicking myself I didnt get the 750 at least when ordering)

    Monitor
Asus TUF Gaming VG34VQL3A 34.0" 3440 x 1440 180 Hz Curved Monitor (not yet bought)

Also bought a couple of these,, just because
    https://www.alza.de/montech-ax120-pwm-black-d12150865.htm

Then I seen the following when looking at Gamernexus and a few other sites and a build with the new Montech XR case, so I Clicked on it,,and I liked
the look of the build (being able to set the RGB to the tone I want etc) and now Im officially down a rabbit hole I never want to go down... sigh!!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqiwvvKH8sU I like the look of the Rad and reverse fans,, as Im going for a dark inner case with Soft tone RGB etc

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 522 ✭✭✭dark_jedi_ire

    So... Am I correct then?

ASRock B650M-H/M.2+ Micro ATX AM5 has no ARGB headers (the Asus side says it should have RGB..but can't see) so to get the following working I would need and ARBG controller?

Montech HyperFlow ARGB 360 All In One Slim 360mm Black Intel/AMD CPU Water Cooler

I may be looking at sending both the MSI power back a long with the AsRock to Galaxus for credit... Any advice on 850w power supply and new motherboard that supports this build and the Cooler fan mentioned above (supports ARGB header etc)

Cheers... The joys of self building...😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,967 ✭✭✭✭K.O.Kiki

All Gigabyte B650 motherboards should have at least 1x 3-pin 5V ARGB header.

PSU-wise, Galaxus don't seem to sell any high-tier units, so I would just get an FSP Vita GM 850 since it has a long warranty (10 years) and comes from a good OEM.

You don't need a 360mm All-in-one cooler for a 7800 X3D. Instead of wasting 100eur on a cooler, use the Royal Knight you've already bought and instead get a 9800X3D.

Alternatively, buy a Ryzen 7-7700 or Ryzen 7-9700X.

    9800X3D -done will do

Vita GM 850- done will do

Appreciate that K.O.. am going to do as advised and stuck with the current CPU cooler... The CPU cooler was a pipe dream 🤣..

B650 motherboard will look into when I get home from holiday

    Thanks again

Nothing stopping you getting an entirely discrete controller. Doesn't have to be enbedded into the Mobo at all. Oddly Montech don't do them but there are plenty out there. I perfer them as they keep all the cables out of the way. There are some that have a remote and others that plug into a internal USB header and be controlled from Windows.

    For example

    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Corsair-Controller-Temperature-Monitoring-Installation/dp/B09GHTMJMY?crid=MNO47146RDPV&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ViFhq5-B8hKjv9UPI2FwRLGTHjkO_8jMM8efrMBVpykT50DfsqX26NBMw3euYtGcfoV6soxKsrhFKkdYqUrv5d4IXnR0u8jl4nfFPd9riSnihPHneENY7CIQfP0ym9D1H3fyocmcHqyQyOL4rIhFPlDP0Vh8vBXXenyXd1xDANPKZUyxdGQk-uAAEUyZPiWsdVje6p4hMtaWg5adwdmbenp-ZqX1_YpnSXBXUW21nUE.NUayv7UreHzlDOrq5pFF6xNeK-qER_UbK3MGpc-oJiY&dib_tag=se&keywords=corsair%2Bargb%2Bcontroller&qid=1743091458&sprefix=corsair%2Bargb%2Bcon%2Caps%2C77&sr=8-4&th=1

Scroll down and you'll see the install instructions. Fairly basic.

ok, so Motherboard and Power are on route to Galaxus - returns..

Here is what the build looks like now,.,. Any Corrections, please let me know, :-)

-Note the Bios update is required for new CPU

-Note still might Remove the Thermaltake reverse Fans - thats purely asthestics Same with the AIO, still looking into these options as I prefer the look and looking into worthwhile AIO`s) n

-GPU I will get when price comes down (Im Delusional., I know , but one live in hope)

You don't want Peerless Assassin 120, that's the old model.

Get either: ID-COOLING FROZN A620 or Thermalright (TR) Peerless Assassin 140, Royal Knight 120, Phantom Spirit 120 (whichever is cheaper/looks better to you)

Oops My bad,, I should have stated that

    CPU Cooling

I have already bought -the Thermalright Royal Knight 120 CPU Cooler, so the Cooler sections there are not updated as Im still thinking on what I want.. More so the Rest of the build.. looks ok? Motherboard has All the headers Im looking for,, its a good motherboard etc,, am going with your suggestions K.O,, so once again thanks
