Just wondering when moving jobs there will be a gap of week or two when the old company stops paying you and the new one starts. What happens with the health insurance as there will be a gap in contributions. Guessing you would be without cover or do they give people a grace period etc?

Just thought I would check ?

You really only need medical insurance for non-emergency treatment. If you have an accident during those two weeks, you will go into hospital via A&E and get the same treatment, with or without insurance.

As the break in your cover will be less than 13 weeks, the new insurer won't be able to make you observe a waiting period for any new illnesses.

So I wouldn't be concerned about two weeks with no cover.

I can't answer your question 'do they give people a grace period', there's nothing on that topic on the HIA FAQ webpage …

I think the way it works is you pay really for the month ahead - in which case I will be ok - I think
