Removal of fire place

An idea that popped into my head last night, with very little thought put into it... Our sitting room layout at the moment isn't great. TV in an awkward place, couches not really facing the TV, or each other.

Chimney breast is about 1800 wide, with two alcoves either side about 1300. TV is currently on a bracket in the right alcove and I'm thinking, if I removed the mantle, hearth, etc. get it cleaned up, I could hang the TV on the chimney breast and get some built in units for the alcoves.

My preference would be to remove the chimney breast but I doubt that's feasible.

Anyway, other than a RGI to make safe the gas fire, would you see much issue with doing this? Tying in the floor might be one, we've the original solid floor from the 80s, would need to sort out under the hearth

I could of course save a lot of bother and hang the TV above the mantle but I'm not a fan of that, TV would be far too high IMO.
