Service Cable Routing

The electrical cable feeding our meter is routed along our soffit. It is an old style timber soffit with a slight fascia overhang which allows the cable to be hidden behind it.

We wish to replace the fascia and soffit with new pvc system which has no overhang.

Are there any guidelines or regulations on how the cable is routed or attached.

Is the removal and refitting something which can only be done by ESB.

    ESB cable.

Currently there is a push on to bury all these house feeds so where is the pole?

eg most new planning grants insist on utilities being buried

Depending on the pole location, ESB will reroute via a buried duct suppled and fitted by u/ur sparks, that meets the esb regs

Am doing it currently, the esb fee will be c 500 lids to run the new wire

Pole is across the road from my entrance.

This is not a new build and there is no planning involved.

I see zero chance the ESB will come looking to bury cable at my location.

If regulations allow perhaps you could run the cable inside in the attic in a red ESB duct and drop down at consumer unit.

Have to laugh at the replies here, it's obviously an old house fed from an overhead line. The OP wants to replace the facia and soffit, and wants to know how to deal with the existing supply cable. He's not looking for advice for a new cable run.

OP, are you replacing the fascia & soffit yourself? If not, just talk to the guys who you're getting quotes from. They'll be used to this type of scenario.

As for ESB rules, I can't advise, but generally any time you engage the ESB, they'll look for a cert, so that's an extra cost and hassle, and the ESB fee won't be cheap either.

Really just wanted to know if there were regulations around how it’s routed so that ESB won’t come back saying it’s not fitted right and you need to do x y and z and only we can do it etc

Soffit & Fascia is done now & getting lots of compliments
