BGE Boiler service - 50% increase

Saw an ad for Bord Gais boiler service for "only" €149. Last year I paid €99 for this!

BGE have most of the consumer gas market (largely due to inertia, most people never switch) and I'd say a lot of their customers get their boilers serviced by them too, how can they justify a 50% increase? I'll price up some of the local boiler guys but I'd say many of them probably benchmark their price off of what BGE are charging…

You don't need to be getting this done yearly. It's a scam. Once every two or three years is fine. I read this online before, posted by Gas boiler experts. Plus, two friends of mine are RGIs and they told me the same.

Its 99e during summer months I thought, discount price to drum up business in otherwise quieter months. 149e is regular price.

it's usually discounted in July and August but last year that was 89 instead of 99.

maybe, but if there's a part needs replacing, I'd rather find out in the summer/autumn than have the heating go in January and be left waiting several days for an engineer.

Yearly maintenance is usually a part of the warranty - so if you don't do it you do risk losing out on the warranty. No idea how that would stand up to Consumer Law.
