Civil service EO VS local authority grade 5

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone could offer any advice. I am about to start as a grade 5 in a local authority but my contract is only for 18 months. I did relatively well in the civil service EO tests placing wwithin the top ten. I am a bit nervous about the 18 month contract as I'm permanent in the role I'm leaving and I like stability to be honest. Would I be wise to to attend for EO interview to keep options open or should I just hope for the best for a contract extension in local authority. Thank you so much in advance.

Keep your options open and do the EO interview.

The EO post if you pass the interview and do well enough to be offered the position would offer you a permanent post pending probation, it would also have greater opportunities for promotion down the road as the civil service has a larger number of vacancies in any given year which also translates to more promotions restricted to serving staff.

It could well be the case that you arent offered a position until you are well into your 18 months contract and could be very timely if there is no sign of it being rolled over. Also check to see if you are eligable for incremental credit switching from local authority to civil service when it happens and in the mean time keep applying for any other permanent positions you see coming up while keeping this to yourself.
