So wanna build a gravel/road bike using as many parts lying around that I have.

Some of those parts are the old stem and bar combo rather then an integrated bar and stem

BUT the frame I will be using will have the whole integrated stuff through the headset etc.

I have plenty of spacers/top cap etc that I would be able to drop the hoses though to start the hidden part into the frame.

Now if I drilled a hole at the clamping area of the bars so the hoses could run inside the bars and then drill a hole at the bottom/underneath of the stem maybe 15-20 mm from the clamping area I drop the cable out of the stem and into the spacers.

They will be alu bars and stem.

Am I playing dentist roulette by drilling holes in the bars and stem ……………..

I mean, I'm no engineer, but I'd definitely just go for it. This is by no means confirmation that it'll work, but I'd be figuring I can't see any reason why it wouldn't. If it was me...

I too would do it knowing I don't have too and you can let me know if you or the dentist wins in the end.

hmmmm… I may just give it a try. I will go up to my lbs and get a bit of a cut off a steerer and do a mock up!

What ever about drilling the stem , do not drill the bars. I have seen the result of handlebars failing.

Alloys when the fail do it suddenly.

I got a set of Ritchey Comp Butano bars that had a hole where the stem clamps for internal routing. Then you can route through a hollow stem but that depends on your frame / routing set up

Yep for the sake of 50 or 60 quid you’d be mental not to just buy a proper bar manufactured with routing holes and save yourself hundreds at the dentist.

Definitely don't drill holes in handlebars..not worth the risk.

I built up a bike and used Deda Vinci bars and stem. it gives you the option to fully integrate or semi integrate cables.
