    Hi all

Is this a pressurised tank ?

As I need to change the element in it as it's blown.

Hi, That might be a trick question… 😀

There will be pressure in the heating coils, you have the two 3/4in pipes going into the top coil around the middle there, then the second coil via the set of pipes going into the bottom coil (from a solar element array with the black foam on them); those will also be pressurised. But the tank itself (the supply to the warm taps) is going to be fed off another plastic tank in the attic, and that will be low pressure.

If you are replacing the element then you will be draining off the system which provides water for the low pressure hot tap, but not touching either of the coils. Hence the answer to the question "is this a pressurised tank" is, no it should not at an excessively high pressure to warrant additional caution. But you know that you'll be draining down to below the level of the element, right?

that may also be a pressurised/unvented hot water system. I.e the main body of water may be pressurised, fed from a pump or mains directly.

For comfort you would be best draining the tank below the level of the immersion before changing.

    Hi 10-10-20

    Thanks for your detailed response

No there is no plastic tank in the attic but there is one in the attic of the garage which is separate from the house and the house is fed from a pump in the garage if that makes any difference.
