Read a book on him a while back. He was of his time, was well respected by his peers and his adversaries and the threat of him acted as a deterrent. Could do with a few like that nowadays.

Never heard of this guy until last week when RTE had a video about him from their archives on the website.

Reading in between the lines it sounds like he was some kind of 1950s Robocop figure dispensing extrajudicial beatings on the streets of Dublin (and also in the police stations of Dublin).
