VHI deductions

I've recently retired from PP teaching and my VHI deductions are not being taken out of my pension. I rang VHI and they said to contact payroll and get the group scheme number for teachers on pension, which I have done. Is it worth my while to stay in the group scheme or would I be as well to just have VHI bill me directly once a year? It's very hard to get details online and every time I ring VHI or payroll i either get no reply or am on hold for ages. TIA for any help
