Birth Certs - School applications

That time of year when parents of kids in 6th class spend the next few days doing school admission applications for secondary school.

Like many parents, I've to do a number of applications as they dont have a joined up central application process in most places.

Most school are looking for 'a n original long form birth certificate". Do they actually expect to get an original or will a copy do?

Noting that they cost €20 each and due to backlogs the HSE will only allow you order a single one online (with a min 3 week processing time).

I have an original, but dont fancy e.g. queing up in Lombard St for hours and paying €100 to get 5 more.

Could you send in the original and ask them to copy it and then return the original to you? An SAE might be appreciated by the beleaguered school secretary!
