Build for adobe suite - unsure on Graphics Card

    Hi all

I am about to build a system for my girlfriend. The primary purpose would be to use the Adobe software suite, including After Effects, and Advanced 3D Renderer

Iv spec-ed up a few systems ranging from a Ryzen 5800X, to a Intel Core i5-12600KF - also spec-ed up a beast with an i9 12900. Im trying to keep within a budget of 800 odd euro, but i want to max this out as much as possible. So a saving on CPU, will allow me to push the RAM up to perhaps 32 or 64GBs - with room to add extra over the life time of the machine

Where i am totally drawing a blank is with the Graphics card. Frankly im stunned by the requirements, which seem excessive. Never the less, it requires minimum spec of 4GB GFX RAM, and a certain standard of graphics card would be the minimum.

    https://helpx.adobe.com/ie/after-effects/using/advanced-3d-renderer.html#renderer-specific-requirements

    https://helpx.adobe.com/ie/after-effects/system-requirements.html

While there are cards at around 100-150 available, im getting a tonne of mixed messages RE what card would be suitable, and what would function without any issues -

Examples of the conundrum would be an Intel Arc based graphics card - which are reasonably priced. But i have found comments online stating that there are issues with support within Adobe - and this even after Adobe included a wide range of compatible Arc's on the above system requirements links

Has anyone any experience with these software suites, and could you point me in the direction of a chipset/card that would do the business? On Paper if i lower the RAM, and CPU, i could budget for up to 350 for the graphics - but my worry is il do this, and then it will turn out to have been less important compared to other components (ram, ssd, cpu, etc etc)

    Thanks in advance

What are you plannin on reusing? What is the €800 budget got to cover?

From what I understand After Effects major bottlenecks are CPU and RAM. GPU will have some impact but once you clear the minimum you are well clear of a serious bottlenecks at the point. Given the €800 you'd be best advised to check to out CEX and pick up a 1050ti 4GB/1060 6GB/1650/1660 and pick up one as a place holder for now. Buying anything new will not be worth it. The venerable RX580s are not worth the risk now seeing as they are no longer getting drivers. This is also why I'd steer clear of the Arc GPUs for now. Would love Intel to crack the market but you don't want to be deal withing Arc driver issues.

So, assuming you are looking for nearly everything I'd think you are going to have to base this around a 5700x. There does not seem to be much difference in the AM4 CPUs once you get to 8/16 specs. If my assumption about what is in play is wrong and we can reuse some part then the better performing 12600 comes into view. I've thrown in a GPU into that build just to cover all bases.

If it has to be a new GPU and you had to get it under €800 you can look at the 3050 and reducing the drive size to 1TB.

Are you going to make money, or is this just a hobby? If it's the former you may want to catch up on this:

i was totally on the clock, so i bought some parts locally

    Second hand GT1060 6GB

    New/Unused Ryzen 3600 (adverts)

MSI B450-A Pro Max (4 dimm slots) (New adverts)

    2 x Corsair 16GB DDr4 3200 (CEX)

    2 x Crucial 8GB DDr4 3200 (CEX)

    1TB M.2 PCIe 4.0 (GG)

    1TB 2.5" SSD (GG)

    750 watt powersupply (GG)

Im sorry i didnt respond but i built this tuesday, as my missus needed it - everywhere i went, there was a weeks lead time, so i compromised on a few requirements to get a quick build up and running

    CPU is taxed but running

Board is fine, and can take 128GB - have 48 in there for now

GPU is fine, and if honest, doesnt seem to be taxed at all for what she is doing

The SSD,s are fine - no issues installing and a quick speed test showed unbelievably fast Read Write Speeds

I cant see too much wrong with this set up but i may pop a 5800X into it within a few weeks - When she is running renderer and media encoder its performing adequately but is maxing out - definite room for improvement

While i had expected the Ram to need minimum of 64GB its never using more than 70% in task manager, so i think we are OK for now.

The temperature concerns me so i need a better heatsink - trouble is it will have to be a screw on one - basically a 'souped up stock' heatsink? If anyone has recommendations i would really appreciate it

The reason i cant stick a tall Cooler in, is i dont have bracing brackets on the board - also, i ****ing hate bracing brackets so there is that too - i have too much PTSD from the athlon XP days

Literally any Thermalright cooler from Amazon with a 120mm fan will do. Will DM you, have one sitting in inventory.

For HS you can't go wrong with the Peerless Assassin or the Phantom Spirit if you buy new. Second hand, to be honest unless you can snag a good bargain for €10-20 don't bother.

Also, as I said above, you'd be wasting money going for a 5800x. It's only a marginal improvement over the 5700x. Same with the 5900x. And be careful, there is a Ryzen 7 5700, no x at the end. Avoid that one. A bit of sharp practice from AMD on that one.

Memory C seems to have a bunch of 6/8 core chips all within touching distance of one another price wise - im trying to get the best value

And yea the NON X versions are deficient in a serious way -

Actually it's more often the non x is better value. Justs a very slight underclock that is barely noticable day-to-day. However the 5700 non x has half the L3 which is not the case with other non x Ryzen which is going to have significant impact. AMD are relying on customers ignorance to sell these parts. Sharp practice. Either way, just go with any x version of the 5000 series if you are buying but the 5700x is the sweet spot.

The 5700X3D is cheap right now and that is a monumental upgrade on a Ryzen 3600.

The 5800X is even cheaper and also a massive upgrade, more cache, more cores, faster per core.
