Winter Qualifying Opens

For those of us who suffer from climate impacts on our ability to play 18 holes during the winter months.

BRS and GI sites either arent functioning or are difficult to navigate and dont include all Opens.

Ideally please list Opens with a link for booking.

Carton House are starting up Winter Opens on most Fridays. I believe that has been qualifying in previous years.

It is nearly that time of year again.

I just saw that the European are a starting up a winter series with 2 open events each week. €80 entry fee. The Tuesday event is limited to Pros and handicaps of 9 and under. The Thursday event has no limits on handicaps.

I don't know what their winter rules policy is but there must be a decent chance of it staying qualifying?

It's changed a bit since Pat Ruddy sold it, but yeah, the Golf Ireland rate is €150 and the rack rate is between €350 and €400.

Cheers for pointing this out. I'll get down in one of the opens before it shuts. God knows what they'll charge when they reopen.

My brother in law is 50 this year and I'll take him somewhere for golf for it. But he tends to get frustrated when things aren't going his way. And he's off about 24. This might not be the course for him…

I would have thought a links course would be a bit of a leveller for a high handicap. Lots of run on the ball, nice turf to play off and then you have the spectacular scenery and some great holes.

Ask him. He might be interested, especially since it will be a last chance. They are going to change the course, so it's now or never to play the origial layout.

The European is probably the hardest course I've played in Ireland…and I couldn't even blame the wind when I was there last! 🙈🙈

I played it last year on a crazy windy day. But I played so bad I wouldn't have had a decent score on a foot golf course that day. So I'd love a go at it when hopefully playing okay.

I'm going to go ahead and book it. It's too much of a bucket list course and it's too good and opportunity to play. As they say in slumdog millionaire - "it is written."
