I saw online that city and guilds is a standard. How about PLC and QQI standard?

Would QQI allow me to work in hairdressing?

I want a career move from care into hairdressing as a 40 something year old.

City and Guilds is one standard. I think it's a UK based on.

    QQI is another.

There has been no standard or even any official hairdressing qual / apprenticeship system in Ireland until very recently. There is now - just. Info here: https://hairdressingapprenticeship.ie/

However some of the larger chains ran (still run?) their own training programme.

AFAIK, you need to start by convincing a hairdresser to take you on as an apprenticeship. They they have to convince the RTB that they can train you, and register your apprenticeship.
