Those engines are heaps of junk. A quick google for that error code →

0101 error code from the check engine system on a Mazda by replacing the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor.

If its just a MAF sensor that needs replacing consider yourself lucky.

yes, I agree , they are heaps of junk. Is it worth investigating further or should I run away. I'm being quoted 4k for worst case scenario of new cam shaft and timing chain. Seems to also be a problem with a Devi device between the clutch and gearbox….

I’d nearly try sell it while its still drivable. Maybe clear the code and trade it in to a garage

Its not worth saving it if it is 4k. A decent mechanic should be able to do a quick diagnostic. Simple MAF swap (if it is that would be cheap enough)

Those cars are nothing but trouble to be fair and at that age and perhaps high mileage not worth fixing if it's going to be a large repair without proper diagnostics

Peter Kennedy of Kennedy Garage Portlaw would be highly regarded with Mazdas have a look on YouTube for his channel plenty of uploads on the numerous issues on that 2.2 lump

Just make sure it hasn't diluted its oil with diesel.

Could just be the MAF needing a spray of cleaner or something.

that doesent explain the very poor power in the car at this stage. I'm thinking the wort tbh.

What do folks thing of a 4 year old Focus, I like ford, used to have a ford never really had a problem. Would a Petrol Focus be good choice, circa 2020??
