Glasses for monitor 1.5 arms length away

I'm newly 4-eyed (well about 1 year ago was first pair) so this is all still new to me.

I have two prescriptions, one for reading and one for long distance (driving).

I got my reading glasses prescription updated recently. When I was getting tested I noted that what I was reading was about 0.5 arms length away.

I didn't order the glasses at that stage, only got the prescription.

I realised a few days after I'd left the optician that when reading I usually hold the book at arms length, and then when using a monitor it's 1.5 arms length, always has been.

Would the "Office glasses" version of my reading glasses be the solution here as I think the reading glasses prescription isn't right for monitor use in my case.

I do find that my eyes get tired after perhaps 3 hours using the existing reading glasses I had for the last year, so perhaps the opticians have always assumed my monitor is arms length away.

You can get progressive lenses E..g distance/monitor/book combined into a single frame. Will have to do same. Might just get distance+monitor for work stuff. I have an optician apt soon.

The issue i have is that you are restricted to certain viewing angles for certain tasks.

Like when I read i don't have it in my lap, rather I'm looking straight ahead, so I'd be using the further range in the bifocal version.

Even now using the phone I am looking at it straight with head bent down. I wouldn't want to have to keep head up and use lower section of the glasses in order to read.

Yes, it's a PITA. Not sure how it works with progressive/bifocals, but you have to get used to them.

I use vari focals and to be honest never notice any degradation when reading at any distance or angle. Any decent optician will give you the lowdown.
