Register of trees as genealogy source?

In the Journal of Kildare Archaelogical Society (1/01/1971) and other journals there are articles about registers of Tree Planting on their land by tenants from late 1700's up to 1900, these exist for 13 counties. The article lists out names by parish and townland. But the article also states that there is a detailed affidavit for each person on record. Has anyone looked at these in National Archives? Do they contain any useful information apart from the types of tree planted, e.g. names of tenant and landlord at various dates? Any info pre 1820's is useful, as I have never been able to go back prior to Tithe Applotments to find any records of families I have investigated.

    Good post John.

I haven't heard of them before but maybe someone else has.

Do you know what counties are covered?

    National Archives

Registers/Affidavits of Trees are listed, depending on their year range, in the finding aids for 'Crown and Peace Offices' (pre-Independence) and 'Circuit Court' (post-Independence). These can be found on open shelving in the public Reading Room.
The relevant records from Crown and Peace, County Tipperary are as follows:Tipperary Peace Office/Register of Trees, 1767-1882  (1C/82/21)Tipperary Peace Office/Register of Trees, 1882-1908  (1C/85/7)
