any suggestions for treating railway sleepers? I have quite a few in the garden looking quite weathered. I have used creasote but a. It is not good for the environment and b. It doesn’t last for long. Any suggestions for an alternative ?

Vinegar, rusty nails and tea bags. Brings out the natural wood stain after three or four coats and all good for the environment.

Folks, I need ~ 10 "railway sleepers" for a couple of sections of the garden - new treated softwood (pine) sleepers are coming in at €230 vs hardwood (supposedly oak) reclaimed sleepers for approx twice that.

Any thoughts on whether the reclaimed sleepers will last ~twice as long?
