Bird proofing the apex of your house after removing a nest

This year swallows have setup nests on the front and back of our house under the apex, lots of droppings underneath, it's not ideal. The nests are now unoccupied. Our neighbour had a similar one and removed the nest last year but it was rebuilt. Here is the nest:

According to http://www.wildlifemanagement.ie/swallows/ "Bird proofing in the form of bird netting is the most successful way stop swallows nesting on your property. This tried and tested method consists of installing a discreet translucent net to a stainless steel wire frame at a 45 degree angle between the wall and soffit stopping the swallows from building their nests."

Has anyone created something that works, or does anyone know where something cheap can be bought?

I removed the nest over the winter and stuck these wands with duct tape. Somehow, they fell yesterday, I guess I should have wired/screwed them up there instead.

I'm not sure if a bird knocked them off or if they just fell off. Should I be concerned about getting them back up again, or is it too late for a nest to start?

I 3d printed some spiky rows to stop them. And no, they're just starting to nest where I am. (west clare).
