How can i get a smart meter after declining previously

    Hi All,

As the title states, i previously declined the smart meter installation in my area as I was unsure about them and i was happy with my Deemed FIT, but since the deemed FIT has been done away with, i'm now looking to make the move to a smart meter.

I have contacted the company doing the installations twice now, and each time i seem to get the most useless bored person on the phone who doesnt know when they'll be back in the area installing or when they are to have the entire country completed.

if i switch, is there any provider that can push for an installation on my behalf? or is there any other alternative?

    Hi Shanec1928,
Thanks for getting back to me.

So previously when the rollout had just begun, i signed up to be an early adopter. Shortly after that there was a lot of negative press about the meters, so i sent them an email opting out and declining it for the foreseeable future.

Since then i had tried contacting esbnetworks and the contractors (cant think of the company's name) and have gotten the runaround.
I hadn't known there was a request form on ESB-N website, and have just submitted it, so we'll see what happens.
Do you know of any other means of requesting one?
currently have a regular Day/Night meter installed for anyone interested

Been waiting for over a year at this stage. Nothing seems to get their attention.

The installation teams seem to be very ad-hoc - around 30% of the houses on my road of 20 have smart meters. Don't have a clue when the rest including my own are due to be fitted.

The company has teams working in areas which means if you aren't in one of those areas they have virtually no resources allocated. So having refused a smart meter when they were in your area - you are waiting for the tiny number of installers who operate the on demand installation service to get around to you. It's a pathetic situation but that what we are stuck with at this stage.

It's going to be a real issue for us when we get solar installed next year.

    Couple of possibilities.

Another Boardsie(Cobo55) suggested moving to Yuno energy. They require a smart meter and apparently will organise it.

The other option which had us a new smart meter in a couple of days was reporting our faulty meter to ESB networks. The time on the meter was out by several hours. Reported on a Friday. Changed on the Monday. Of course that would require your meter to have a similar fault 😀. Worth a look.

Edit: ours was changed from a day/night to a smart day/night meter. RM108.

Changed to Yuno. They required a meter change as they need to get usage info on a near realtime basis to be able to show usage on the smartphone app.

Thanks everyone for the great advice.
I'll probably look to Yuno to get it sorted.

I know there was a discussion on Boards in relation to smart meter codes and what exactly is covered, so i might look into that first in case i have some say in the matter.

I'll post an update for anyone interested
