Anyone have experience with the Coltherm PIL Immersion Timer + Thermostat

Anyone have any experience of these timers/thermostats?

    https://www.cothermpil.co.uk/product-information-environmental-smart-water-heating-technology

Looks to be a step up from the digital timer as it measures temp and usage. Im looking to install a new digital timer for a bit of hot water to the sinks in the mornings and evenings. Would be using the sink function for this. Looking at the Coltherm product it appears to be installed on the bath element? What I like about it though is that it might acknowledge when the water is already warm from the central heating and therefore not stay on for as long. The digital timer is a bit "dumb" in that sense.

    Would welcome any other suggestions!

HI, that website is a bit light on technical details. I can't download the installation manual either, it's just popping me back onto the main page.

Anyway, the devices seems to be a slightly advanced controller with the main feature being that it aims to optimise the water heating to the high-demand periods, ultimately with the objective of minimising energy loss through storage.

It seems to only support one element alright, so you'd have to chose between sink and bath - and it has no ability to vary the power to the element or even have an external input (so can't be integrated), so it's not something that could be linked up to a solar system or home automation software either. Additionally I'd have to question whether it really delivers between 10 to 15% savings on the average home system, as the demo tank being used is a well insulated cylinder, and any basic timer setup with the correct demand times will deliver hot water with little loss - so I can't see exactly where that saving is coming from in that particular case.

So it seems to be selling itself on it big-brain "complex algorithms to accurately learn your daily, weekly and monthly water heating usage", but I'm not convinced by the marketing blurb that it's enough of a step-change from a standard 7-day timer (with holiday mode) to warrant a swap…

    Opinions on a postcard…

ya I agree - it is a bit vague on the detail and there's very little in terms of review online. I just can't seem to find something a bit smarter. All I want really is to be able to set a timer for certain periods, but then have the device acknowledge the temp of the water so that it can decide how long the element needs to be on for during those set periods. If the water is already hot from the heating say, it's pointless having the immersion come on just because it was timed to.
