Chimney cap

Morning all,

I'm in the process of lining my two flues and noticed yesterday that the precast chimney cap seems have to deteriorated somewhat. See picture attached. Can anyone recommend a product to paint over it too seal it up or any other suggestions?

It's probably the condensation dripping off the cowl, it's acidic and eating at the concrete.

There seem to be acid resistant resins out there but you might get your hands on a suitable tanking slurry easier:

Thanks for the reply. Yep, I was thinking of something like that. Structurally rhe chimney is sound, was looking at the owl lava 20 etc but I'm sure any polyurethane based waterproof sealer would do it

Good time to tackle this job anyhow, no rain for a few days will make it seal better into the concrete.

Lava 20 looks good, except best check it's frost resistance as it will be highly exposed up there.

JUst thought I'd pop back in and say that I lined the two chimney flues and fitted an insert stove. Painted the cap with flexistop from a company in Galway. It seems to be the business but only time will tell I guess.

Hi, yes I did it myself and fitted the insert stove, bear in mind I practically built the house myself in 2005.
