    Could you recommend a book to bring someone from a low level of knowledge to a competent homeowner in terms of knowledge of home maintenance?

    The best bestseller in Easons is the Collins complete DIY manual but this was printed in 2011 so might be a bit outdated.

    If it's just "diy" then the Collins manual would probably do.

    Or are you thinking more of a "project/refit"?

    I'd just start using Youtube on a per-project basis. No book is going to explain it any better.
