Bike rack on a saloon car?

Hey all,

I need to drop my car somewhere tomorrow which would be very handy to be able to cycle home rather than walk. I borrowed my sister's bike rack that she hasn't used in years, it looks like this:

The issue with it is that (a) my sister has no recollection how she attached it to her old cars, but they were all people carriers whereas my car is a saloon and (B) when I try to match the setup from the photo in link the bottom bar sits way lower down on my bumper rather than on the bottom of the boot.

So my question is this, are bike racks for saloons different to hatch back? Or am I missing something obvious?

Have you tried adjusting the angle that the two pairs of bars meet, knobs on each side. The two straps heading towards the window are the ones to keep tightening to lift off the bumper

This, let the back seat down and chuck the bike in the car, easier and safer.

Absolutely.

Those racks, in my experience, risk scratching both your bike and your car.
