Following as I have to pay someone in Canada soon. Was thinking Revolut as well. Top up in euro, convert to CAD and transfer to their Canadian back account.

The receiver doesn't need a Wise account. You can send from your Wise account to a Canadian current account. This is fast but not instant. If you want instant, you can send to with Interac, which is a Canadian instant payment system.

Has anyone done this - using Revolut to pay directly to a US or Canadian bank account?

I do it all the time. Transfer euro to Revolut account, exchange to dollars and send. If you process the payment on Revolut in the morning it will be in the US bank account that day. Depending on your Revolut account, there may be a fee but it’s normally only a couple of Euro depending on the amount you’re transferring.

Atlantic.money might be an option, it's a flat 3€ fee (however the first transfer is free).

You give them the receivers details and pay to atlantic.money IBAN, once it reaches them they send the money onwards.

There is also and express option which cost slightly more but offers faster sending.
