How do i sort this out? Need to paint the ceiling but have to sort this out first. The tape is quite rigid….it's not masking tape.

It'll be a jointing tape and from the tiles I guess it's a bathroom and repeated moisture exposure has caused it to curl.

You could try and PVA it and then repaint, or cut it along with a stanley knife and use a good filler on the remaining gap, then re-paint.

Others may have better suggestions (these days it would be using scrim tape and the ceiling would be plastered).

If it's a bathroom then you can't use PVA as it rehydrates and won't last during to the humidity.

The most suitable filler would be jointing compound, but it's tricky to use as you'd need to clean off that tape and then embed it in the filler, then backfill the gap. That filler only comes in 12kg bags too, so it's impractical too.

I'd suggest instead to use a sharp knife to cut it back then fill it in with a premixed branded filler such as Polycell Multi Purpose or similar. Let it dry fully and paint with a humidity resistant paint.

I'd fit some polystyrene coving and paint that along with the ceiling.
