2gb fiber broadband

Hi guys,

I was looking around at a new broadband plans and was going to go with virgin 2Gb on Siro however the upload is only 50mbs. I am with Vodafone and getting 200mb up and if I use a vpn I can get 350mb upload anyone using virgin and getting more than 50mb upload on siro network ? and what is virgin modem like ? thanks.

I wouldn't touch Virgin with a bargepole personally. If you're currently getting 200 up, that's about as good as you'll get on a domestic connection. Legacy SIRO gigabit plans have a 200 upload, which you'll lose if you change provider and remain at gigabit speed (new plans are 100 up).

ok that is interesting it is also funny that virgin can give 2gb download and the rest can only do 1gb including Vodafone and they own the Siro network with the ESB

Vodafone and Blacknight can also offer 2Gb. I think Digiweb can too. It would be area-specific though, I don't think I can get 2Gb where I am.

what’s really weird for me is blacknight can supply 2GB, but Vodafone claim it’s not available for me.

No they don't. They also use OpenEir..I'm with vodafone and its an openeir connection. On 1gb but can go to 2gb.

As for vodafone saying its 1gb only give it another few weeks and it will update to 2gb. Was the same for me. Blackknight said 2gb, vodafone said 1gb and all the rest still hadn't picked up the new openeir connection.

Sorry, you're right. A friend of mine had them on OpenEir, I might have been thinking the wrong way round, that Eir don't use SIRO.

no worries :) yes Eir don't use siro.

and to Op..2gb is really overkill unless you're doing a lot of uploading /downloading.

I do a ton of torrenting etc and to be honest I'm finding the 1gb loads.

I do want the 2gb but that means upgrading to 10gb cards, 10gb switches and wiring my house which will cost me a few grand. At present its really not worth it.

prob a year now I had black night 2GB and nothing from Vodafone! Switched recently to digitweb but only 1GB, simply couldn’t justify the nearly €80 a month for it.

I am in Carrigaline in Cork and I went onto the Siro website and that is how i saw the 2gb download from Virgin media. Now my understanding is OpenEir and Siro have nothing to do with each other but I could be wrong ?

Completely separate networks. OpenEir is Eir and SIRO is ESB/Vodafone.

They don't.

Opereir fibre is run in Eir manholes. Siro fibre is run in ESB manholes.

The same resellers offer packages on both.

Yes I was thinking that so it could be to do with the exchanges virgin updated and the rest are not on the Siro network.
