Is it time to have a seperate thread on shrinkflation apart price inflation.Apart from the supermarket price increases thread

With the actual gram or millilitre reduction and producer mentioned.

I love the way you shrunk "shrinkflation" down to "shrinflation" in the thread title.

    Lead by example eh.

Marathon bars are being re-introduced to the UK soon but only for a short period.Any guess on how small they will be.Offers at 35g

I can see the ad: "It's back! The Marathon bars we all love, but with less calories!"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,573 ✭✭✭beachhead

I thought Marathon became Snickers, so they've never really 'gone away'?

Also, it would be "with fewer calories!" Yes, I'm fun at parties.

Probably a form of it, buying a tube of toothpaste packed in a cardboard box, on opening said box finding a puny tube about a quarter shorter than the box.

Aldi's 4 pack of wheaten muffins (for fakeaway McMuffins) vanished for over a year here and returned as a 6 pack but 10g per muffin lighter. The UK still has the original 4 pack that was sold here and they are 66g per muffin whereas here they are now 56g per muffin.

The whole video is worth a watch but the relevant part for this discussion is on quality.

"British rail has not doubled the price of the cup of tea, we have however halved the size of the cup".

Tesco have increased their branded milk price. No sign of them reducing container sizes though.

    Just noticed this one

Jacobs have sneakily reduced the pack size of Mikado from 250g to 200g

They are half price in Dunnes.. but that sneaky pack size reduction is a 25% price increase if they are not on offer

Its happening on practically every product now, or has been happening over the last year or two.

Food, drinks, sweets, chocolate, washing powder, buns, the lot.

It's getting to the stage when the chocolate bars are going to be the same size as the bars in party pack bags! Certainly the multipacks (3 or 4 bars) are going that way.

or maybe it should be called greedflation!

Freddos think there were 5 in a pack

    Now 4

    1000028022.jpg

    Cadburys Little bars

Definitely was 6 in a pack now 4

    1000028023.jpg

It is getting to the stage where a multipack will contain 2
