New Heating System Supplier

    Hi folks,

Recently bought a new (old) 4 bed semi-d house with an old oil fired central heating system and I'm looking to change it to gas. We'd considered a heat pump but don't think we'll have the funds to upgrade the rest of the house to a high enough BER rating to make it work so the gas is the next best option.

My question is, are there specialist suppliers who do this or is it literally your local plumber could do it? Reason being is we'd likely need to swap out the rads and hot water tank also so wondering if it's a major job or what the likely costs would be?

    Any ideas greatly appreciated!

    RP

A local reputable plumbing and heating contractor would likely be the specialist. Try and identify one that you can verify has done good work previously.

Is there a natural gas supply already to the property? Or would you be thinking about an LPG gas tank?

I would say don’t rule out a new oil system yet either, modern condensing oil boilers are clean running and as efficient as gas. The costs may also be lower.

A new condensing oil boiler, and oil tank installed might be in the ball park of €5k

Gas boiler option - difficult to say without knowing more detail.

Replacing rads and hot water cylinder could be another €5k

Just browsing here on behalf of relative who needs to upgrade old oil system. How much is cost to bring gas in from road these days? so a gas boiler of c 3 k cost…. but then can the old system take the pressure of the new gas boiler? We had it done 12 yrs ago and all gun metal pipes, rads and tanks replaced. If they replaced with a new oil burner, will it cope with old system?

Is your current oil boiler 12 years old?

A 12 year plumbing system should be able to cope whatever you throw at it.
