Apple CarPlay Issues

I've recently bought a 2019 VW Passat which has Apple CarPlay built into the radio/media player. Once I connect my phone the CarPlay feature asks me to connect. After 10 seconds it tells me that the connection was unsuccessful as my phone wasn't unlocked. My phone is an iPhone 12 pro. I have watched numerous videos and read articles on how to fix but so far nothing has worked. I've tried using a different cable, resetting the whole media player, used different ports, changing settings on Siri etc.

My last solution would be to go to a VW garage and see can they fix it. Just wondering if anyone has anymore information on this or any tips to get this working??

    Uninstall and reinstall car play.

I assume Bluetooth is connected normally?

Carplay isn’t something you can install or uninstall. Its built into the car and is recognised by your phone

Does you car have wireless carplay or only wired?

Have you tried to delete your car from your phone (Settings > General > Carplay) and try connecting it again?

It's a wired connection only. When I go into my carplay settings on the iPhone my car doesn't show up. I think this is because it's not connected to the car. Once connected to the car it will appear there. Unfortunately it won't let me connect

The list of cars you have connected to will appear there even if you are not connected.

May be worth trying someone else's iPhone to check.

Have you checked the carplay setting on your phone to make sure it allows carplay when locked?

Settings > General > CarPlay > [Car] > Allow CarPlay While Locked

When I go into Carplay settings on my iPhone there is no available cars. It is searching for cars as it has the little circle but unfortunately it never finds any cars.

One plugged in I get a notification on the Media player in the car asking do I want to connect. After a few seconds of trying to connect it says it was unsuccessful and to make sure iPhone is unlocked even tho the phone is unlocked

If I was having this issue I would do what a previous poster suggested and see if someone else's iPhone can connect.

If they can, I'd make a backup of my iPhone (either to iCloud or using iTunes onto my pc), I'd then factory reset my iPhone, just sign back in to my Apple ID on it, but NOT put my backup onto it, then see if my iPhone will connect to it. If it does connect, I'd put my backup back onto my iPhone and see if it remains connected.

If it remains connected, happy days. If it refuses to connect again, you have some garbled data in your backup that's preventing the iPhone connecting. You'll need to make a choice whether you want the pain of setting up your iPhone as a new phone and redownloading your apps etc to it, or go without using the Car Play.

If the iPhone doesn't connect after the factory reset, it's more likely to be an issue with the car, rather than the phone.
