Looking for advice, who can uninstall an old Phonewatch security system, an Electrician or does it need someone who specialises in these systems?. We bought our house recently and its on and wired into the mains, we're looking to get rid of it?

    Thanks

Hi, an independent alarm installer can disable it and it would probably be the best way. If one is not available then some electricians may also do it. You just need to be very clear that you are looking to simply disable it but leave it intact, then there won't be any issues with liability, etc.

You could effectively do it yourself by pulling the fuse out of the spur then it will power off but remain running on battery for a time. You would then usually open the unit (the alarm will sound) and then pull the battery out. Job done.

Depends on the model. The very older ones were the property of the householder while others remain the property of Phonewatch. You need to check out the ownership..

Ask mods to move this post to "Home Security Systems".

If you are thinking of installing a new alarm, it might be best to leave it in situ albeit disabled as some of the wiring etc could be reused.
